The Play Intelligence book, “PI to PIQ” written by James Findlay of Play Intelligence is on the market spring 2014 by American publisher.

Revolutionary book and theories, it will change the way you think, play and teach our next generation!

The following is a foreword by Professor Matti R. A. Bergström, for the book “PI to PIQ”.

This is a deep and penetrating book explaining the expanding capacities of human intelligence. The standard definition of intelligence focuses on our logical abilities to use information to solve different kinds of problems in our lives. In that context intelligence is an information-logical talent. We are measuring this intelligence with a special kind of method, which we call IQ.

With this in mind, in schools children have to learn as much information as possible through the logical mode of thinking. It has also been noticed that children’s play activity in some way helps their abilities to solve problems.

Later emotional intelligence (EQ) was introduced, where emotions where considered as important factors in treating certain kinds of problems. Many researchers also considered play had a positive effect on intelligence.

Finally there has come the concept of Play Intelligence. Now here is the value of this book. It is the first time this new concept is introduced and is shown to be the right one: The core function of intelligence is CHILDRENS PLAY! It can be concluded that play as motor activity and thinking, IS intelligence.

This corresponds with our empirical findings that the child-brain, which we consider being our 3rd brain, forms the base of our brain, and also forms the base of our intelligence as a Play Intelligence throughout our lives.

Play is a subconscious, imaginary-, i-number structured activity. We have difficulties to understand it with our conscious, real-number, r- number structured conscious thinking (i with r, as mathematicians know).

We thus have three measures of intelligences working together: 1) The Logical intelligence (IQ), 2) The Emotional intelligence (EQ) and 3) The Virtual intelligence (VQ). We call the childrens play intelligence ”Virtual”, since it needs no necessarily information !

This book also shows play acitivity should not be depressed as often is done in schools. It also discovers many hidden characteristics of play. One is that play is the ”highest form of research”, as said by Einstein! Children are ”scientists” experimenting with all modes of methods, and all kind of objects. It also connects with dance, music and arts.

All this shows Play Intelligence corresponds very well with brain activity, and its development. We thus can recommend the reading of this book which opens new ways for us to understand intelligence. ”Play Intelligence” is a remarkable source showing a new understanding of intelligence which is important for our childrens future.”
